چکیده

The popularity of mobile applications utilizing wireless networks is growing as increasingly capable terminals and advanced networking technologies emerge. At the same time, Peer-to-Peer (P2P) networking is becoming more and more important as a technology for a general-purpose communication system. Based on these developments, P2P networking has also became an interesting option for mobile internet-based networking. Mobile environments, however, set challenging requirements that need to be taken into account when designing P2P systems on them. Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) plays an important role as the de-facto signalling protocol in mobile networks. Due to the emerging popularity of P2P, the standardization organizations have started to direct more and more effort on P2P standardization. Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), for example, has recently formed a new Peer-to-Peer SIP (P2PSIP) working group for developing a serverless version of SIP. We have earlier developed a middleware for providing a platform for supernetworked applications in mobile terminals, allowing them to flexibly interface with each other and the Internet using various protocols and network connectivities. This thesis presents the middleware Intercommunication Architecture model, building upon the P2PSIP overlay. The goal is to serve the applications with an optimal way in different situations. The main contribution of this thesis is further analysis, specification and validation of this conceptual model. Through use case analysis and requirements specification, the detailed design of the PnPAP Intercommunication Architecture, utilizing P2PSIP, SIP, and SIP extensions regarding instant messagingand file sharing, is presented. The system-level run-time architecture, node architecture, and behavioural design are presented in order to give coders the clear guidelines for implementing the architecture proposed. Finally, the work analyzes the feasibility of the system by benchmarking the proposed P2P-based model against the traditional client/server–based model. The approach selected is proven feasible with the current communication technologies with some conditions. As more advanced networking technologies emerge, the feasibility of the approach is estimated to increase in the future.

Mobile Peer-to-Peer over Session Initiation Protocol

of the Licentiate's Thesis In my Master's Thesis, we presented how a mobile peer-to-peer file-sharing application can be implemented using the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) as the underlying signaling protocol. The main objective of this thesis is to evaluate what kind of special requirements mobile environment poses for peer-to-peer application design, and present how peer-to-peer based se...

State-of-the-art Sip for Mobile Application Supernetworking

This paper introduces the current state-of-the-art of SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) and the use of SIP in supporting P2P (peer-to-peer) applications on mobile phones. The use of SIP in All-IP mobile phones is a step toward achieving supernetworking, providing the user with powerful yet conceptually simple tools for sending and receiving multimedia content over a wireless network. The analys...

Simple Peer-to-Peer SIP Privacy

In this paper, we introduce a model for enhancing privacy in peer-to-peer communication systems. Themodel is based on data obfuscation, preventing intermediate nodes from tracking calls, while still utilizing the shared resources of the peer network. This increases security when moving between untrusted, limited and ad-hoc networks, when the user is forced to rely on peer-to-peer schemes. The m...
